En el campo de las ciencias y la tecnología existe una importante brecha entre el porcentaje de mujeres y de hombres que se encuentran activamente involucrados en el desarrollo de investigaciones y hallazgos novedosos. En el presente informe se indaga sobre las razones por las cuales, todavía en el año 2021, las mujeres se encuentran en desventaja frente a los hombres en trabajos de índole científico, y se demuestra como esta diferencia puede ser consecuencia de un proceso en el cual, el contexto social, educativo y los esteriotipos que se han ido perpetuando en las sociedades, son los principales responsables del bajo número de mujeres en las Ciencias, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas.
Además, se exploran los esfuerzos institucionales (tanto de gobiernos, como de organizaciones sin fines de lucro) que se han impulsado en Latinoamérica y a nivel mundial, para cerrar la brecha entre los géneros.
About the report
In the field of science and technology there is a significant gap between the percentage of women and men who are actively involved in the development of research and novel findings. This report explores the reasons why, still in the year 2021, women are at a disadvantage, in scientific work, in comparison to men, and demonstrates how this difference may be the result of a process in which the social and educational context and the stereotypes that have been perpetuated in societies, are the main responsibles for the low number of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
In addition, it explores the institutional efforts (in both governmental and non-profit organizations) that have been promoted in Latin America and worldwide level to close the gender gap in this area.
