En repetidas ocasiones los mandatarios latinoamericanos han modificado las limitaciones a sus períodos presidenciales con el objetivo de adueñarse del poder político, socavando los contrapesos que les impidan actuar sin límites. Este informe realiza un análisis de los cambios de los sistemas de reelección en América, con la finalidad de dilucidar este proceso y sus aspectos fundamentales y se expone como en Latinoamérica la reelección ha sido utilizada históricamente como instrumento para la generación de autoritarismos; estableciéndose como una herramienta utilizada para arremeter contra la democracia.
About the report
Latin American leaders have repeatedly modified the limitations of their presidential terms with the aim of seizing political power, undermining the counterweights that prevent them from acting limitlessly. This report aims at analyzing the changes in the reelection systems in America; explaining this process and its fundamental aspects and exposing how in Latin America re-election has been used historically as a mean to develop authoritarianisms; thus establishing itself as a tool used to attack democracy.
